Can I Really Do This?

Want to Start a Ministry on Your Campus - Can I Really Do This

When you think about being a leader, what comes to mind?

A simple definition of a leader is, “a person followed by others.” The Bible speaks of different ways in which God wants us to lead. Here are three.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19 ESV
and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2 ESV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”  Acts 1:8 ESV

There are a lot of common myths about leadership.

  • It’s only for certain people.
  • Someone has to ask me to be a leader and give me a title.
  • I have to have certain skills first.
  • Leaders have to know all the answers.

If those things aren’t true about leadership, what is?

  • God calls all who know Jesus to lead by making disciples.
  • Leaders are first and foremost growing in their own relationship with God.
  • Everyone has a first time leading and every leader, even experienced ones, make mistakes.
  • Leaders get to say, “I don’t know.”
  • Each person will lead differently because God has gifted us with unique personality and skills.

If you believed these truths about leadership, how would they affect your willingness to launch a gospel movement among those God is putting on your heart to reach?
